Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Became

On April 8, 2001 the denomination formerly known as
Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints celebrated
it's new name, Community of Christ. It is an international
denomination with approximately 250,000 members in more than 50
nations. Legally organized in 1830, it has been known as
Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1860.
In recent years, many have expressed desire for a name that more
adequately represents the church's theology and mission: "We
proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope,
love and peace." Delegates at the 2000 World Conference
approved the new name with a nearly 80 percent affirmative vote.
